The efforts of the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management towards the attainment of the vision of the University of Ibadan, ‘to be a world class institution’ has yielded a positive result.
The Department has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence for Aquaculture and Fisheries Management by the African Union (AU)
The Dean, Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, Prof. Adejoke O. Akinyele has led a team from the Faculty to pay a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale mni, FAS, in his office for the presentation of the certificate.
The Dean said the award of recognition had been given to the Department at a programme held by the African Union in Nairobi, Kenya, a few years ago, but the certificate had just been released.

Prof. Bamidele Omitoyin, a former Head of the Department, said it had been an ongoing process since 2016. He acknowledged the efforts of Prof. A. E. Falaye, Prof E. K. Ajani and other founding members of the Department.
The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the entire members of the Faculty for the continuity in policies, effective performance, efficient service delivery, synergy, and unity among members of staff.
He encouraged the Department to do necessary follow up with the African Union and gave the assurance of management’s support.
Professor Adebowale, on behalf of the University, congratulated the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management on the award of recognition and progress all around.
The Department with this award is recognised as an African Union Centre of Excellence for training in Aquaculture and Inland Fisheries.
