CELEBRATION OF A LEGEND: Chief Akinpelu Obisesan’s 64th Posthumous Birthday to Hold in October

Ibadan, Nigeria — The stage is set for the grand celebration of the 64th posthumous birthday of Chief Akinpelu Obisesan, OBE, MBE, JP, one of Nigeria’s most revered figures and a pioneer of the cooperative movement.

The event, which will also feature the official commissioning of the renovated Obisesan Hall, is scheduled for October 22, 2024, at the historic Obisesan Hall on Oba Adebimpe Road, Dugbe, Ibadan. The ceremony is set to begin at 10 a.m.

This joint celebration, organized by Oodua Cooperative Conglomerate Limited and the Aperin Obisesan Home and Diaspora, promises to be a remarkable tribute to the late Chief Obisesan, honouring his immense contributions to Nigeria’s social and economic development.

Speaking with one of The Mogjournals correspondents in ibadan, Oyo state, Hon. K K Obisesan, a prominent member of the Obisesan Aperin dynasty, confirmed that preparations have been finalized for the memorable occasion.

In his biography, Hon K K highlighted Chief Akinpelu Obisesan’s journey from a city with a powerful military past to becoming a symbol of modernity and progress. His father, Aperin, a distinguished elephant hunter, played a vital role in defending Ibadan before British colonisation.

Following these events, Akinpelu Obisesan pursued formal education and became proficient in English, a skill that would propel him to significant positions of influence, including his appointment to the Nigerian Legislative Council in 1943.
