CAMPUS NEWS: A former Oyo State Coordinator of the FRSC Special Marshals, Professor M. O. A. Olateju has advised motorists within the campus to imbibe a culture of civilised driving.
He gave the advice while delivering a lecture during the celebration of the 2024 Road Safety Week at the University of Ibadan.
Professor Olateju, a national winner of the Road Safety Service Award, said drivers should be cultured, critical, committed, and always appreciative of the context in which they are driving.
The State Sector Commander of the Oyo State Sector Command RS 11.3 of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Corps Commander Joshua Olufemi Adekanye fsi, called for a revamping of the road furniture such as signages, within the University campus.
He stated that the FRSC was committed to cooperating with the United Nations for the reduction of Road Traffic Crashes (RTC).
He, therefore, charged drivers within the University campus to obey traffic rules and keep within the recommended speed limits of 30 kilometres per hour in areas where students are few and 20 kilometres per hour in areas where students are concentrated.
Other speakers at the lecture were the coordinator of the UI Special Marshals Unit 47, Professor O. Fagbola and the Chairman of the Road Safety Week Planning Committee, Professor Ambrose E. Aiyelari.
The thrust of their talks was road safety on the University campus. Participants at the lecture were afforded the opportunities to ask questions.
Earlier, free medical examinations had been carried out on the participants, and whoever cared to have their wellbeing/ medical status checked.
