The Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, yesterday assumed the chairmanship of the Nigerian National Committee of the World Energy Council (NCC-WEC) in a private ceremony organised for the event.

The Nigerian National Committee of the World Energy Council (NCC-WEC) is an organisation dedicated to enhancing Nigeria’s role and participation in the global energy community. Its mission is to promote energy sustainability development, foster international cooperation, and ensure Nigeria’s energy sector contributes to the global dialogue on energy policies and strategies.
In other words, it is an organ that further propagates the mandate of the Energy Commission, giving it a stronger voice in the international community.
The outgoing Chairman and a former Director-General/Chief Executive of the Commission, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, OON expressed his strong belief in the leadership of the incoming Chairman, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, whom he described as a round peg in a round hole, for the all-important task.

He averred Dr. Abdullahi’s leadership deliverables in his short term in office as the numero uno of the lead agency in the country’s energy infrastructure – Energy Commission, he has the capacity and capability to provide necessary direction.
“Today, Tuesday, the 21st of May, 2024, I hand over to Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi. I am confident that the NCC-WEC is in capable hands.
“Dr. Abdullahi brings with a wealth of experience, a deep understanding of our energy landscape, and a passion for driving progress. I have no doubt that under his leadership, the NCC-WEC will continue to thrive, and make even greater contributions to the global energy community.” The Professor Emeritus submitted.
In his response, Dr. Abdullahi expressed his sincere gratitude to the outgoing Chairman, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, for his exceptional leadership and achievements, which included but not limited to;
• Promoting sustainable energy through policy advocacy.
• Fostering international collaboration and partnerships.
• Capacity building for energy professionals.
The Energy Commission boss then promised to give his best, promising that under his leadership, the NCC-WEC will build upon the milestones of the outgoing Chairman and his team, working closely with the new Executive Council to achieve even greater heights.
“The Committee under my leadership will no doubt work to consolidate on the achievements of the outgoing Executive Council. We will work to ensure further strengthening of Nigeria’s role in the global energy community.
“We will promote, more, sustainable energy development and international cooperation, while ensuring Nigeria’s energy sector contributes to global energy policies and strategies as stipulated in the MissionStatement.” Dr. Abdullahi averred.
As the honcho in charge, Dr. Abdullahi looks forward to working with NCC-WEC members, the World Energy Council (WEC), and all critical stakeholders to achieve this goal of promoting a sustainable energy future for Nigeria and the world at large.
