Following the conferment of Honorary Doctoral Degree on her by Trinity University, Yobe, Bolaji Gbengbeleku, a chieftain of APC in Ona-Ara LG has congratulated the former first Lady of Oyo State, and the Chief Executive Officer of Grandex Nigeria Limited Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi on the new academic feat.

The honorary doctoral degree is in recognition of her impact and contribution to the economic development of the society through her successful business operation and activeness.

CITATION OF HER EXCELLENCY, DR (MRS) FLORENCE AJIMOBI: AN AWARDEE

Dr (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi is the Chief Executive Officer of Grandex Nigeria Limited, one of the foremost indigenous companies leading operations in the retail sector of the Nigerian Economy, with chains of stores in the major cities of the country.

Armed with a Master’s Degree from the prestigious London School of Business and Finance, she was able to grow the business from a simple trading partnership, run with the help of her husband, to the conglomerate that it is today, over the last 39 years.

Although her keen business acumen is her hallmark, she is also a woman of passion, who takes her call to the service of humanity as her primary concern.

This helps her see every role she fills in business, and indeed in life as a whole, as an opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of all the people she comes across.

Driven by this, she has conceived and nurtured several initiatives and created a number of organizations through which she can better help vulnerable groups and the less privileged.

These include the ABC Foundation through which she has assisted with the provision of easy Access to Basic Medical Care for people who would otherwise have been unable to afford it and a welfare home for vulnerable children; the Educate- A -Rural -Child Initiative through which she has been involved in the provision of educational support for indigent children in rural areas; the Ajumose Food Bank, a monthly food provision support programme which has been responsible for feeding tens of thousands across Oyo State and the establishment of an ICT Center for women in public service.

In recognition of her philanthropic efforts and her contribution to the alleviation of poverty in Nigeria, she has received several awards, which include the Diaspora Champion Award, Award of Excellence for

Christian Service from Alabaster Commission Inc., Washington DC, Nigerian Women Pacesetter’s Award of Excellence and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Award for Professionalism and Excellence among several others.

When she is not busy caring for and doting on her adorable grandchildren who are the center of her world, Dr (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi is lending her wisdom and experience to humanitarian associations and societies with which she is actively involved like the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Oyo State, for which she is the Grand Patroness; the National Council of Women Societies, Oyo State for which she is the Grand Patroness; Nigerian Girls’ Guide, Oyo State Chapter, for which she is a Patroness.

Also, Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Oyo State for which she is a Grand Patroness; Archdiocese of Ibadan Catholic Women Organization, for which she is a Grand Patroness, Nigerian Library Association, for which she is the Grand Matron and the Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria, for which she was appointed a Life Matron, just to mention a few. 

Florence Ajimobi’s life is one of compassion, marked with piety and service to God. She was happily married for 40 years to her heartthrob, late Senator Abiola Ajimobi and their union was blessed with successful children and grandchildren.

Her focus in this season is on mentoring young women and girls and equipping them to be instruments of change in the society.
