A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akinjide Kazeem Akinola, has called on political office holders, stakeholders and Nigerians generally to work towards building the country’s democratic setting on strong institutions in enhancing good governance and dividends of democracy.
Akinola made this call via his Media Assistant, Akintunde Yusuf, while congratulating Nigerians on Democracy Day.
The Ibadan-born politician explained that democracy can only survive if it’s surrounded by strong institutions of the state.
“Since 1999 when Nigeria returned to democratic rule, the country has been journeying through democratic principles with strict adherence to rule of law and protection of fundamental human rights of her citizens.
“Be that as it may, the country has not adequately strengthened the State institutions of operations and governance in the executive, judiciary and legislative arms of government. And one reason why the country is still passing through one challenge or the other.
“Strengthening these referred institutions is a collective effort of the government and its citizens. It is with this that Nigerians must see reasons why their support is important for the sustainability of the democracy we are all enjoying,” he added.

Speaking further, Akinola said “leaving the government alone to work it out is good but it will take time. Then, we must submit our ideas on how the system and the institutions of governance can be best operated for the good of Nigerians. We are all in it.
“It is important to say that criticism is part of democracy. But we must be constructive to help those we are criticizing to understand the messages we are passing across to them. How best they can get the observed lapses corrected. When the critics toe the negative and abusive lines, we won’t allow them to listen to our golden advices on a matter that concerns all,” Akinola noted.
He continued: “These people are human beings like us. They need our support just like we needed their service to make Nigeria better while they are still there.”
In his conclusion, the Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency hopeful, also congratulated President Bola Tinubu on the successes he has recorded during his one year and few days as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and urge his cabinet members to not relent in renewing the hope of Nigerians for good.
