Minister for Power Chief Adebayo Adelabu has revealed the problems befalling the Nigerian Power Sector whilst assuring solutions are being proffered and implemented adequately.
Chief Adelabu made this revelation during the “Reunion 2023 and Luncheon in Honour of Chief Adebayo Adelabu as Honorable Minister of Power & Investiture of the Set’s Role Model & Patron, HRM, Oba Dr. Olubayo Windapo and Award Ceremony” party of the 1982/1987 set of Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan, which was held on Saturday at Bayseone Brick House Hotel, Samonda area, Ibadan.
The Power Minister, Adelabu who was honoured along with others for their accomplishments disclosed the problems of the three phases of the Nigerian power sector had been diagnosed viz generation, transmission and distribution phase. He thereafter listed the workable short term and long-term solutions for addressing this problem fazed in the Power Ministry.
“The three phases have peculiar problems but have been diagnosed. We are tackling the problems in phases,” assuring Nigerians would enjoy improved electricity supply.
Admitting the power sector is challenging but that he preferred such complex sector he said it was one of the reasons President Bola Tinubu appointed him as power minister.
According to Adelabu, President Tinubu earlier affirmed to him that he won’t give him a portfolio that he would be operating from his bedroom but a herculean one like the Power sector.
However, Chief Adelabu also gave the assurance that, “very soon the problem of the power sector shall be summounted.”
Other members of Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys Association, LAGSOBA (1987 class) conferred with Awards of Excellence in Career are Akinwale Oyeleye, a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso (current vice chairman of the body); Akinyele Akinboro, also a Computer Scientist based in USA;; Dr Lekan Oguntade, (immediate past past Chairman of the set) who’s a Director with the Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research; Alhaji Ganiyu Bello, a seasoned Administrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPMN); Adekunle Adebisi a seasoned Administrator and Fellow of Association of National Accountants, ANAN; Engr Ayodeji Adeleke, Head of Civil Engineering Shell Oil Company; Engr Seun Omotoso, a Canada based Metallurgical Engineer; and Tunde Akinola a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
Those in the category of Award of Service Recognition are Sir (Col) Adebola Ogunsanwo; Olayinka Brimoh, a Financial and Management Consultant based in Canada; Kehinde Kilanko, a Broadcast Systems Engineer based in USA; and Pastor Funso Ojo, also a Financial and Management Consultant
The luncheon also featured the investiture of Oba Dr. Olubayo Adesola Windapo Alara of Ara Kingdom, also an alumnus (1979) of the prestigious school as the Set’s Patron/Role Model.

In his address Chairman of the Set, Ibukun Ogunniran urged members to continue to allow peace, love and unity reign in their midst, saying he planned to leave a good legacy of achievements. He thereafter urged all members of the set to continue to give their invaluable support that has seen the set grow thus far, whilst advocating for prompt payment of their annual dues.
Also present at this momentous occasion are the Chairman of Lagelu Grammar School Governing Board, Baale Barrister Femi Johnson, Alhaji Ganiyu Iyaniwura, the School Principal; Mr. Lawal, Top Media Gurus; Yemi Sounds (YES FM, CEO), Mr Seun Awodele (Annointed Presenter), top dignitaries from all works, set members and invited guests from all across the world were all present for the reunion programme, as well as friends, well wishers and colleagues from other institutions.
