OYO: Makinde’s PDP Is Defeatable if…. — APC Chieftain, Akeem Agbaje Reveals

Akeem Agbaje, a chieftain of All Progressive Congress, APC, in Oyo State, and legal practitioner, has revealed the tactics for the opposition party in the state to defeat Governor Seyi Makinde’s PDP in 2027.

Agbaje who in a popular radio program in Ibadan explained that the present PDP in the pacesetter state under the leadership of Gov. Makinde is defeatable at the poll if APC can come together as one strong party in 2027.

In his discussion, Agbaje said, “the event of 2023 is past, and the party can only get it better ahead of 2027 if all the stakeholders resolved to stop pointing fingers against each other as one or the other is responsible for the last electoral loss. Majority of the aspirants then had agenda of hijacking the system to their respective favor, only the smartest one won at the end. Even though hijacking party structure is not fair in democratic process. So, I do not see why Sen. Folarin should be castrated because of emerging as gubernatorial candidate of our party in 2023 by some party stakeholders.”

“If we are going to be honest with ourselves, we need a united APC to take over from the present PDP in the state. There should be strict adherence to party discipline through respect to the leadership of the party in the state. Our state working committee and relevant stakeholders should continue meeting to resolve whatever issues that are causing division within the party. I trust the capacities of our state Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abass and other officers of the party at state and other levels. APC is our party, all of us are going to work together.”

Speaking of the government of Gov. Seyi Makinde, Agbaje noted that, government is like a system, you cannot jump one aspect and expect results on the other. It all encompasses one another. According to him, on the upgrading of Ibadan Airport to international standard, “while it is good to have the upgrade even before now, it is important to note that, Ibadan does not have the hub which could fetch the required international passengers’ traffic yet. Government supposed to work on that before the upgrade. That is one of the undoing of Gov. Makinde.”

“Governance is more than surface scratching as has been experienced in Oyo state under Gov. Makinde. Infrastructural development is key to economic prosperity. And under these infrastructural drives, there are also some priority areas. It is like a sequence, one after the other. This is failing under the present governor of the state. The state of our secondary schools across the state are not encouraging. Same to the healthcare system and others if subject to critical analysis.”

Akeem Agbaje believes that Oyo state can have it better than the present if capable hands are given the opportunity to rule this economically prosperous state.
