A violent clash erupted in Ilowa Gbade Village, Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State, after Fulani herdsmen allegedly attacked a farmer, cutting off two of his fingers.
According to reports from Heritage Echo, the victim, John Akin, was tending to his cassava farm when the herdsmen invaded with their cattle, trampling on his crops. When Akin confronted them and pleaded for the cows to be led away, the herdsmen allegedly responded with violence, attacking him with machetes and cutting two of his fingers.
Eyewitnesses say the brutal assault has thrown the village into chaos, with rising tensions between local farmers and herdsmen. One of the attackers has been arrested and taken into police custody for further investigation, while security agencies are reportedly launching a manhunt for the other perpetrators.
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation is underway. Meanwhile, residents and stakeholders have called on Governor Seyi Makinde to take decisive action to address the escalating farmer-herder crisis in the state.
