A delegation from Nelson Mandela University, South Africa, was in the University of Ibadan for an in-depth collaborative discussion.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, FNPA, who received the visitors and spoke on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, expressed the University’s delight in welcoming the delegation and commended the initiative to harness African resources for the continent’s development.

He noted the longstanding academic and staff exchange relationships between South Africa and Nigeria, highlighting that the collaboration would enhance these relationships, especially with Nigeria’s premier university.

He assured the delegation of the full support of the University of Ibadan for the partnership and expressed hope that the collaboration would be mutually beneficial.

The leader of the delegation and Vice-Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University, Professor Sibongile Muthwa, emphasized their intention to collaborate with like-minded universities to foster knowledge and address scholarly challenges within the community.

Other delegates from Nelson Mandela University were Prof. Andre Keet, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Engagement and Transformation; Prof. Judy Peter, Senior Director Mandela International Office; Dr. Jenny Bozena du Preez, Senior Manager, Chair for Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation; Dr. Palesa Mothapo, Director Research Support and Management; and Dr. Nehemiah Latolla, Project Lead, Africa Collaboration Project.

The expected areas of collaboration are joint research initiatives, student and staff exchange programmes, and collaborative academic programmes.

Other areas are shared resources and facilities, community engagement and outreach programmes, innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives, and potential funding opportunities and grants.
