UI takes steps to actualize its e-learning strategic vision

The University of Ibadan has organised a One day strategic planning workshop (phase 1) for the actualization of its e-learning strategic vision and its policy on virtual and blended learning

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Aderonke M. Baiyeroju declared the workshop open.

She recalled that the University Senate had earlier approved the strategic vision to expand the frontiers of learning through the provision of research driven and excellent e-learning activities, experiences, and e-assessment which have the wherewithal to equip graduates.

She stated that participating in acquiring 21st-century e-competence skills and attitude is the first step.

 

The Director of the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Dr Adedoyin Aguoru, said that across the world, blended learning and virtual teaching had come to stay adding that institutions across Nigeria and in West Africa have fully embraced virtual and blended learning as a better way of teaching in the 21st century.

 

The training programme, which was coordinated by the UI e-learning Committee, under the leadership of Professor Ayotola Aremu, was organised for newly engaged teaching staff of the University.

The Committee had designed a 6-week work plan which comprises engaging activities from the first week with introductory videos, course guide with each topic having the corresponding objective and resources through to the sixth week on formative assessment through short quizzes.

 

Facilitators would include 49 e-coaches, the DBL4 team, and the NOUN Group.

These are selected staff of the University of Ibadan who had had the opportunity to participate excellently along other 11 institutions in Africa in more in-depth and professional forms of virtual and blended learning.
